Victoria Ska & Reggae Society
Kutapira "Bangidza"
Their name is Kutapira which means “sweetness” in Shona - one of 16 languages spoken in Zimbabwe. When you listen to their music you'll understand why they chose that name. Mixing Zimbabwean Marimba, Afro-Cuban & West African rhythms, Afrobeat, funk, reggae, samba, jazz, cumbia and hip hop their music makes those that never dance move their body and sends those that like to dance into a euphoric frenzy.
This track Bangidza is one of the first Kutapira tracks off their first album release "Peaceful Man" over a decade ago.
Formed over 16 years ago through a global roots youth initiative, Kutapira has been spreading rhythm and love on the streets and Vancouver and beyond ever since. The members have worked with some of the world's most talented marimba and percussion musicians since they formed when they were barely teenagers.
The band on this recording includes Sangito Bigelow (marimbas and percussion); Chris Couto (marimbas and percussion) Jeremy Bryant (marimbas and percussion), Sebastien Chamney (electric guitar) and Jeanse LeDoujet (bass).
