FRIENDS 5.0 - A Tribute to Classic Breaks - The Incredible Bongo Band - Apache
The FRIENDS nights are a series of music that Ive curated to bring musicians together, to play music together that normally wouldn't have a chance to do so, in a musical setting thats tailored to my tastes that are outside the box of what you would normally hear at a night in a club. FRIENDS 5.0 was a tribute to the most sampled breaks, and the original artists that wrote, and performed them. This video features Kat Hendrix, the original drummer on the Apache Incredible Bongo Band Break, that was the anthem to NYC Underground parties with DJs such as Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, Africa Bambaataa, and beyond. We were very honoured that Kat came down to sit in and play this timeless classic with us... Filmed by Nathan Fleming with Fine Tuned www.finetuned.ca

Victoria Ska & Reggae Society
Their name is Kutapira which means “sweetness” in Shona - one of 16 languages spoken in Zimbabwe. When you listen to their music you'll understand why they chose that name. Mixing Zimbabwean Marimba, Afro-Cuban & West African rhythms, Afrobeat, funk, reggae, samba, jazz, cumbia and hip hop their music makes those that never dance move their body and sends those that like to dance into a euphoric frenzy. This track Bangidza is one of the first Kutapira tracks off their first album release "Peaceful Man" over a decade ago. Formed over 16 years ago through a global roots youth initiative, Kutapira has been spreading rhythm and love on the streets and Vancouver and beyond ever since. The members have worked with some of the world's most talented marimba and percussion musicians since they formed when they were barely teenagers. The band on this recording includes Sangito Bigelow (marimbas and percussion); Chris Couto (marimbas and percussion) Jeremy Bryant (marimbas and percussion), Sebastien Chamney (electric guitar) and Jeanse LeDoujet (bass).
